An Introduction To Horse Riding & Equestrian Sports


A herd of happy, mostly home-bred horses is ready to take you on your equestrian adventure. The riding holiday is all about you and your chosen horse. I love practicing dressage, jumping, reining, trail riding, and cow work with my AQHA gelding, Azteca gelding, and Mini Appy in beautiful Montana, USA. As you improve your riding at a walk and trot, you’ll become ready to canter and gallop. Once you’ve tried trotting for the first time, it’s hard to imagine how they do it.

The most noticeable feature of western style riding is in the saddle, which has a substantial saddle tree that provides support to horse and rider when working long hours in the saddle. The western saddle features a prominent pommel topped by a horn , a deep seat and a high cantle. The stirrups are wider and the saddle has rings and ties that allow objects to be attached to the saddle. We can also cater to corporate groups, schools and hen’s and buck’s parties at Spring Creek Horse Rides, with special rates available forschool and group horse riding experiences.

There is some evidence that about 3,000 BC, near the Dnieper River and the Don River, people were using bits on horses, as a stallion that was buried there shows teeth wear consistent with using a bit. Riding horses well takes years (often decades!) of practice. It can be hard to see progress when you’re just starting out, but hang in there. As with everything in life, practice makes progress .

We cater for children (4yrs+) and adults from complete beginners to advanced. All our riding lessons are conducted in our outdoor schools by experienced instructors, using a variety of well schooled quality horses and ponies. We offer private lessons, semi private lessons, group lessons and jumping lessons, BHS Stage 1 and 2 training and limited disability rides. In Greece, an analysis of a national registry estimated the incidence of equestrian injury to be 21 per 100,000 person-years for farming and equestrian sports combined, and 160 times higher for horse racing personnel.
